Ferne McCann eats a live spider in ‘cruel’ I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! challenge

ONE contestant has taken on possibly the most disturbing eating challenge anyone has ever faced on I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!
Ferne McCann, a star of British reality show The Only Way is Essex, has eaten a live spider during the UK show’s final Bushtucker Trial in order to win a meal for one of her fellow contestants.

In the troubling scenes, McCann traps the Australian water spider in a glass and shakes it around vigorously, shrieking as it touches her hand.
“I’m going to keep doing this for a little while,” she says to hosts Ant and Dec, who both laugh.
“You like your spider shaken, not stirred,” Ant commented, adding, “He’s not happy, is he? He knows what’s going to happen.”
Eventually, McCann threw back her head and ate the spider.
Ant couldn’t believe she went through with the challenge, saying: “You are a hero, how did you do that?”
The finalist replied: “It smelled of cockroach, tasted dirty, the body was mushy and gunky and the legs were spiky and crunchy.”

The task has been labelled “cruel” by angry viewers, who hit out on Twitter expressing their disgust over the 25-year-old TV personality’s performance.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have also slammed I’m A Celebrityfor the “inhumane stunt”.
Associate director of PETA, Elisa Allen, told Mirror Online: “Time and time again, this program has shown a complete disregard for sentient life and a lack of creativity, evidenced by the fact that it has repeated the same tacky and inhumane stunts for more than a decade.
“All animals – not just the ones who are considered cute and cuddly – want to live free from harm. It’s time for the producers of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me out of Here!to be called not just before the court of public opinion but also before a court of law.

I’m A Celebrity, which debuted in Australia in 2015, has become notorious for its hard-to-watch eating challenges. The reality show has featured celebs forcing down anything from witchetty grubs, to kangaroo testicles, lamb brains and even a crocodile penis.
Former cricketer Freddie Flintoff, who was crowned king of the jungle on Ten’s first series earlier this year, made host Chris Brown vomit when he devoured a live cockroach during a Bushtucker trial.
Ultimately, the controversial stunt wasn’t enough for McCann to take out the 2015 series, with Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison being crowned this year’s winner.
