Mother charged after toddler J’zyra Thompson burns to death in oven

A COUPLE has been charged over the death of a 19-month-old girl who was burned alive in an oven.
Toddler J’zyra Thompson was shut in the cooker by her two three-year-old siblings when they were left home alone in her mum Racqual Thompson’s apartment in Houston, Texas.

Thompson, 25, and her boyfriend Cornell Malone, 21, have been charged with four counts of endangering a child following the November 16 tragedy.

J’zyra died of severe burns, despite Thompson desperately trying to resuscitate her.
One of the three-year-olds put the toddler in the oven while the other turned it on.
According to court records prosecutors filed on Monday, Thompson told investigators that she left her four kids — a five-year-old, two three-year-olds and J’zyra — alone in their apartment for around 30 minutes when she went to pick Malone up from work.
They later left the children alone again after putting them to bed to get pizza and visit his brother, and were gone for around two hours.

The children’s grandmother, Gina Dennis, lived in the same apartment block but was unaware they were alone, it was alleged.
Social workers suspected the youngsters were often abandoned.
Their mother told them she often drove her boyfriend to his job at a pizza restaurant.
According to court records, Thompson is currently eight-and-a-half months pregnant.
Thompson and Malone are due in court on Wednesday.

  1. what were they charged with? article never says what they were convicted of or what happened to the unborn child of the mother. She was 8 1/2 months pregnant the article said. I hope it was murder. And I hope the other children are in counseling and will not be left in the care of their mother any time soon.
